When is the best time to remodel in Central Florida?

In Short

There is no single best month. Central Florida weather rarely stops interior work, so the date that matters is when your design and selections are finished, because material lead times set the start. For a kitchen or bathroom in early 2027, start the design conversation this fall, settle selections before the holidays and let the work begin in the new year.

Key facts

  • Interior kitchen and bathroom work is rarely held up by weather; storms mostly slow deliveries and dumpster pickups.
  • Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30.
  • Custom cabinets commonly take six to twelve weeks from order to delivery (industry guides).
  • Industry guides put most bathrooms at one to four weeks of construction and a midrange kitchen at four to eight.

The best time to remodel is less about the calendar and more about when your design decisions are made. Weather in Central Florida rarely stops interior work, but an unmade decision about cabinets or tile stops it every time.

If you want a new kitchen or bathroom in early 2027, the planning starts now, well before anyone picks up a hammer. This guide covers how the planning stretch works, what the seasons change and what they do not, and the steps worth taking this fall.

Planning sets the start date, not the season

A remodel has two timelines. The first is the work in your home: demolition, rough plumbing and electrical, tile, cabinets, counters and finishes. The second is everything before it: design, selections, ordering and delivery. Homeowners usually plan around the first. The second decides when the first can begin.

Design comes first because every later step depends on it. The layout fixes the cabinet order, the cabinet order fixes the countertop template, and the tile choice fixes how long the shower takes to build. Until those decisions are made, nobody can give you a real start date.

Lead times are the part you cannot rush. Industry guides put custom cabinets at roughly six to twelve weeks from order to delivery, and specialty tile, imported stone and made-to-order vanities at four to eight. Stone counters are templated only after the cabinets are installed, then cut and set one to two weeks later.

So the practical question is not which month to remodel. It is which month to finish your selections. Work backwards from there and the right start date usually becomes obvious.

Working backwards from the date you want

Here is the sequence most kitchen and bathroom projects follow. The time ranges come from industry guides; your own schedule is set once your selections are final.

  1. Consultation and measurements. A walk through the space, your must-have list, and the first conversation about budget.
  2. Design and selections. Layout, cabinets, counters, tile, fixtures and lighting. This is the step that most often runs long, usually because one choice waits on another.
  3. Ordering and lead times. Materials are ordered once the design is signed off. Custom cabinetry is typically the longest wait.
  4. Construction. Industry guides put most bathrooms at one to four weeks of active work and a midrange kitchen at four to eight, or eight to twelve with layout changes.
  5. Finishing details. Shower glass is measured after the tile is set, then fabricated and installed, which industry guides put at one to three weeks.

Our guide on how long a remodel takes breaks these stages down by project size, with the active work and the total including planning side by side.

Seasons and weather in Central Florida

Most interior kitchen and bathroom work is not affected by the weather. Tile, cabinetry, plumbing and electrical all happen inside a closed, air-conditioned house, and a rainy afternoon does not change much.

What weather does affect is everything that moves in and out of the house. Summer storms can slow deliveries and dumpster pickups, and a forecast storm means securing materials and anything stored outside. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so a summer or early fall schedule deserves a little slack.

Humidity matters too, quietly. Paint, grout and some finishes cure best with the air conditioning running, which is one more reason to keep the house closed up during the messy stages and to protect the rest of the home with dust barriers.

The cooler, drier months have one real advantage: demolition and haul-off are easier when doors are open for hours at a time. That is a comfort, not a deadline. A well-planned project goes ahead in July just as well as in February.

Planning around the holidays and family events

If you are hosting a holiday, a graduation or a family visit, count backwards from that date and leave buffer time. A kitchen that is supposed to finish the week before Thanksgiving has no room for a late cabinet delivery or a backordered faucet.

A useful split is to do the small things now and the big things after. A bathroom refresh, new counters or a vanity swap can often fit before the holidays. A full kitchen or a primary suite is usually better planned this fall and built in the new year, when your calendar is clear.

If the kitchen will be out of action, plan a temporary one: the refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker in the dining room or garage go a long way. Knowing how you will eat for a few weeks makes the whole project feel calmer.

Steps to take now for an early 2027 remodel

  • Set a budget range. Decide what you are comfortable spending before you fall in love with a finish, and leave room for the surprises older homes keep behind the walls.
  • Write a must-have list. Three or four things the new room has to do, such as more storage, a walk-in shower or seating at the island. Everything else is negotiable.
  • Collect photos of what you like. Saved pictures say more than descriptions. Notes on why you like each one help even more.
  • Walk through the space with your remodeler. A visit in person turns a wish list into a plan with real measurements.
  • Make your selections early. Choosing cabinets, tile and fixtures this fall means materials can be ordered and waiting when work begins.

For budgeting, Posada kitchens fall into three ranges: refresh and update, $15,000 to $25,000; full remodel, $25,000 to $50,000; luxury and open-concept, $50,000 to $80,000+. Bathrooms run from $8,000 to $15,000 for a refresh and update, $15,000 to $30,000 for a full remodel, and $30,000 to $40,000+ for a spa or primary suite.

Permits deserve a place on the early checklist as well. Permit-required work goes through our licensed general contractor partner, and our guide to remodeling permits in Florida explains when a kitchen or bathroom needs one.

Frequently asked questions

Is winter a good time to remodel in Florida?

It is a comfortable one. Interior work goes ahead in any season, but the drier months are easier for demolition and haul-off, and they sit outside hurricane season. The catch is the holidays, which fill calendars, so a winter start is easiest when the design is finished in the fall.

Can I remodel during hurricane season?

Yes. Interior kitchen and bathroom work continues through the summer. Build a little slack into the schedule for storm days and slower deliveries, and expect materials and anything stored outside to be secured when a storm is forecast.

How far ahead should I plan a kitchen remodel?

Give yourself time for design and selections before the start date. Industry guides put a same-layout kitchen at roughly ten to fourteen weeks from first meeting to finish, and a layout change with custom cabinets at fourteen to twenty. Your remodeler can give you a realistic timeline for your scope.

Can a bathroom be finished before the holidays?

Often, if the scope is modest and the selections are made early. Industry guides put most bathrooms at one to four weeks of active work, and frameless shower glass adds a short wait after the tile is set. Start the conversation as early in the fall as you can.

What is the slowest time of year for remodelers?

It varies by company. Ask your remodeler about their schedule early; the sooner you book, the more start dates you can choose from.
